AWS Customer Spotlight series shines a light on how AE Live is revolutionising Live Sports Production
AE Live is the focus on a new episode of the AWS Customer Spotlight video series. The podcast highlights how AE Live is modernising its production workflows through AWS cloud technologies to meet the growing demands of global sports broadcasting.
In the episode, AE Live CTO Dave Gill reflects on the company’s long‑standing presence in world sport and discusses the industry’s shift toward centralised and remote production, driven by cost, efficiency, and sustainability. “TV sport production used to be about turning up with big trucks on site… and that’s really expensive and not very environmentally friendly.”
Cloud‑based workflows now allow AE Live to virtualise services and deploy them only when required. “One of the things that cloud production can help with is by virtualising a lot of those services, only having it on when you need it.” Low‑latency performance remains essential for live sport. “It’s no good delivering graphics from a New York server into Adelaide, latency is so important when you’re dealing with live sport.”
Dave Gill also emphasises the importance of future‑ready technology. “To stay relevant, we need to be cloud hosted,” he says, adding that AI will be central to AE Live’s next phase of innovation. “Harnessing the power of AI… is where we need to move forward and innovate.”
